With knowing that “Extend Volume” and “Shrink Volume” are contained in Windows 8 Disk Management, I planned to extend one of my main partitions since it just has 5GB free space left. But finally I found I can’t resize my main partition of Win 8 easily for “Extend Volume” was grayed out. Is there any good solution? The following image shows what I’m confronting:
Who can tell me the way to extend C drive?
From the image above we can see that user failed to extend a main partition for there is no unallocated space right contiguous to the target partition. To settle this problem, users had better ask third party partition manager for help rather than Windows 8 Disk Management, because the latter does not provide a good solution unless users delete partition F. If users do not know which partitioning tool to choose, try using MiniTool Partition Wizard, because it can take free space from other existing partitions on the same disk to extend the target partition. Next, let’s see how easy to resize a main partition on Windows 8.
Step 1: run partition manager to get its main window:
Step 2: select the partition which needs extending and click on “Extend Partition”.
Step 3: take free space from an existing partition to extend the specified main partition. Here, we take free space from partition F to extend partition C. Then, drag sliding button to determine how much space to take and click “OK” to go back to the main window:
Step 4: click on “Apply” button to apply all changes.
So far, the work to extend a main partition has been finished. If users are being troubled by the problem I can’t resize a main partition easily under Windows 8, try taking this method. We believe the partition manager MiniTool Partition Wizard will not disappoint any of you.
