How do I resize partitions on HDD Vista

Hello,
I bought my Core 2 duo computer in 2008, which installs Windows Vista. I got a 60GB partition for Windows operating system while other 2 partitions are allocated with 90GB space (totally 250GB space in the HDD). Now, I’m running out of space in the Windows system partition, so I want to take out some memory from the 90GB partitions and then add it to the 60GB one since the latter only has 5GB space left. How do I resize partitions on HDD in Windows Vista? Is there an available tool?

Solution: Here, we mainly introduce 2 tools. One is system built-in disk management tool, and the other is MiniTool Partition Wizard. The following content will show users how to make use of these 2 programs.

How to Resize Partitions on HDD with Windows Vista Disk Management

Open the tool by following the steps: right click “Computer”, select “Manage”, and choose “Disk Management”:

In this window all partitions are listed. To resize partition, just right click the target one and choose a suitable function from shortcut menu. There are 2 functions for resizing partition, namely “Extend Volume” and “Shrink Volume”. Nevertheless, both of them should work in specified conditions. “Shrink Volume” can only shrink a NTFS partition, and the unallocated or free space can only be located after the source partition; “Extend Volume” just extends a NTFS partition with contiguous unallocated or free space on the right. If these conditions can not be met, just change partition size with MiniTool Partition Wizard.

How to Resize Partitions on HDD of Vista with MiniTool Partition Wizard

Firstly, run partitioning tool to get its main window:

Then, select the partition which needs resizing and choose a function from the left panel. To shrink a partition, please choose “Move/Resize Partition”. To extend a partition, users are suggested employing “Extend Partition”. Both of them support almost all Windows file systems, and target partition can be extended even if there is no unallocated space contiguous. Here, we select system partition and click “Extend Partition” to enlarge it. After that, the following interface will appear:

Here, choose a partition or unallocated space from the same disk to take free space to extend system partition and drag sliding handle to decide how much to take. Then, click “OK” to return to the main window:
