Enlarging the USB Drive Space

Have you ever met this kind of situation: when opening a newly bought USB drive, it displays less space available than the marked number on the external? Do you want to get the missed internal memory back? And are you curious about how to reach the goal? In this article, a powerful partition magic will do you a favor.

Causes for the Reduction of Usable USB Drive Space

Two reasons should be taken into consideration:
1. When there is unallocated space in the USB drive, the usable space will be smaller.
2. USB producers set the rule that 1G is the same with 1000MB (the actual number should be 1024MB). Thus, the real capacity of the USB is decreased.

Unallocated space can be seen in Disk Management Tools. Before enlarging the USB drive space, users had better run the Windows disk management tool to check whether there is such kind of space in it. When the answer is yes, you can make the USB’s available space larger by third party partition manager.

The professional partition magic – MiniTool Partition Wizard Free – is worth trying. With this software, users can extend the partition in safe mode. And there is no need to worry about data loss. Then I’ll show users the detailed steps to fulfill the task.

Note: For removable devices, Windows can only identify the first partition of them. As a result, there is always 1 partition on a USB drive.

Use MiniTool Partition Wizard to Enlarge the USB Drive Space

Please download and install the partition magic to your computer.
Then open the freeware to the startup screen and click “Launch Application” to enter its main interface.

1. Select the target partition and left clickExtend Partition or “Move/Resize Partition” in the left pane. Here, I take the operation on “Extend Partition” as an example.

2. Users can extend specified partition by taking free space from other partition on the same drive. Next, right dragging the sliding button to your desired value and left click “OK” to go back to the main interface.

3. Now the capacity of the USB drive has been reached to 7.21GB (the former capacity is 5.61GB). Click “Apply” button to execute all operations. Finally, enlarging the USB drive space has been perfectly completed.

When you need help in the future, don’t forget to use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free. Other practical functions are waiting for you.
