With more and more programs and unknown files saved to system partition of Windows 7, it has run out of space. Therefore, I planned to extend it by using built-in Disk Management but finally found I can’t increase the size of partition that has operating systems since there is no contiguous free space after system partition. Then, I shrink a partition neighboring to the system partition, but the released unallocated space can not be located neighboring and after Windows 7 system partition, so I still can’t increase it. What should I do?
Maybe, most users do not know the fact that unallocated space got with the function “Shrink Volume” built-in Windows Disk Management can not be used to extend any other partition except the source partition itself. Therefore, if users want to extend a partition when there is no contiguous unallocated space after the partition which needs extending, they had better turn to third-party partitioning tools. Here, we introduce a free but professional partitioning program namely MiniTool Partition Wizard. By using it, users can increase the size of partition that has operating system in simple operations and without rebooting operating system. Next, let’s see detailed steps.
Step 1: launch the partitioning tool MiniTool Partition Wizard to open its main interface:
Step 2: select system partition namely partition C and click the function “Extend Partition” from action panel.
Step 3: increase the size of partition that has operating system by taking free space from an exiting partition or from unallocated space on the same disk, and then drag sliding button to decide how much free space to take. Next, click “OK” to go back to the main interface.
Step 4: click “Apply” button to apply changes.
After application, we are successful to increase the size of partition that has operating system even if there is no unallocated space on disk. When users can’t increase the size of Windows system partition, try using MiniTool Partition Wizard. It is believed that this partitioning tool will bring users great surprise.
